NEW YORK, Oct. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- On2 Technologies, Inc. announced that it has partnered with Beijing Fastrend Technology Ltd. (Fastrend, Beijing, China) to develop and deploy a broad range of mobile streaming applications throughout China. As part of this agreement, Fastrend has licensed On2 Technologies' TrueMotion VP7 video compression technology and will work together to develop mobile streaming applications.
Fastrend is a technology provider to mobile service providers, and is the primary provider for China Transport Telecommunications Broadband Network Service Co., LTD (CTTnet); CTTnet is the primary mobile streaming service provider to China Unicom, currently one of the largest mobile telecommunications operators in China.
By the first quarter of 2006, On2 and Fastrend anticipate jointly completing a VP7 integration on the Symbian mobile operating system. Future implementations on additional mobile operating systems, beginning with an implementation on the Brew mobile platform, are planned for rollout on a regular basis.
On2 and Fastrend plan to launch first in the Chinese mobile phone market on a large scale, starting with the quick adoption of the integrated product by CTTNet. The parties will also actively market the integrated VP7 mobile video applications worldwide. In support of this initial focus on the burgeoning Chinese mobile phone market, On2 has granted Fastrend certain exclusive marketing rights relating to VP7 for mobile applications.
