Mainland China and Taiwan Production of Digital Cameras Topped 94 Million Units in 2004
HONG KONG, Nov. 1 /Xinhua-PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Global Sources Ltd. released four new titles in its China Sourcing Reports series. The reports highlight production capacity, pricing, and research and development strategies of China's makers of digital cameras, flash memory cards, barebone PCs and passive components.
Highlights from these China Sourcing Reports show:
Digital cameras
-- Mainland Chinese and Taiwanese manufacturers produced 94 million digital cameras in 2004.
-- Exports topped 82 million in 2004.
-- Makers expect export growth of 10 to 20 percent in 2005.
-- Mainland Chinese makers of flash memory cards expect exports to top US$302 million in 2005 -- up 100 percent from 2004.
-- Makers expect to export US$25.2 million of card readers -- up 20 percent from 2004.
-- Makers are shifting production to mini Secure Digital (miniSD) cards and Reduced-Size MultiMediaCards (RS-MMC) -- about half the size of their older counterparts.
Barebone PCs
-- Mainland Chinese and Taiwanese sales of barebone computers are expected to top US$583 million in 2005 -- up 97 percent from 2004.
