i3ARCHIVE Extends the Capabilities of its GRID Based Medical Imaging Architecture

BERWYN, Pa., Nov. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- i3ARCHIVE, Inc. announces that it hasextended the capabilities of its GRID based medical imaging architecture knownas the National Digital Medical Archive ("NDMA") to service the needs ofbusiness continuity and disaster recovery for picture archive andcommunications systems ("PACS"). The April 2005 HIPAA security updatesrequiring that all healthcare entities have a disaster recovery plan ineffect, requiring a copy of all medical data be secure, retrievable andmaintained in a second location, such that if the primary copy of the data isdestroyed or made unavailable, the disaster recovery copy would be available,have led to questions as to how these mandated requirements would befulfilled. In the wake of recent natural disasters, clearly it is not beyondthe realm of possibility that images and data could be forever destroyed,leaving a hospital without its patients record and a patient without his/herhealth history. Radiologic imaging records are among the most difficult tomanage and securely back-up. The NDMA's Business Continuity and DisasterRecovery(TM) ("NDMA-BCDR") services exceeds HIPAA's requirements, and willprovide current, as well as new, PACS customers with the unprecedented abilityto host a replicated, virtual instance of their PACS environment that can beaccessed during periods of unavailability or inaccessibility.
