The flat-panel display market is one of the fastest growing segments inthe electronics industry, thanks to declining prices and government mandates promoting digital programming. Panel makers are expanding their production capacities to meet demands and encourage adoption. According to iSuppli, worldwide shipments of LCD and PDP TVs are expected to increase from 20 million units in 2004 to nearly 80 million units in 2009.

To address this demand, Xilinx has partnered with Alliance partners Digital Design Corporation (DDC), Tata Elxsi and Apical to introduceready-to-use, FPGA-optimized, fully-tested reference designs that enable advanced image processing features such as precise gamma correction, motionartifact estimation, noise reduction, sharpness enhancement, and connectivity features like LVDS/RSDS Rx/Tx and flexible timing controllers.

"Designers of display systems compete to the be the first to deliver advanced imaging processing techniques and differentiated value-add features for high-quality television viewing at price points that enable them to capture the largest market share for a given panel size. Spartan-3 FPGAs have gained wide acceptance across key digital display manufacturers worldwide and continue to help them manage time-to-market, differentiation, and cost pressures," said Krishna Rangasayee, senior director of Vertical Marketing and Partnerships at Xilinx.
