Tokyo, Nov. 16 (Jiji Press)--Sharp Corp. plans to procure Taiwanese-made liquid crystal display panels for television sets from next spring, President Katsuhiko Machida said Wednesday.
Sharp is negotiating with several Taiwanese LCD makers on the matter, he told a press conference here.
The company is mulling the plan apparently to meet growing demand for LCD TVs.
For TVs with 37-inch or larger screens, Sharp plans to use its own LCD panels made at its plant in Kameyama, Mie Prefecture, central Japan, Machida said.
TVs with screens of up to 32 inches will be equipped with LCDs made by companies outside the Sharp group, he added.
