R2 Launches Version 8.1 Mammography CAD System

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Nov. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- R2 Technology, Inc., the leaderin computer aided detection (CAD) technology for the earlier detection ofbreast cancer and other medical conditions, today introduced its newImageChecker(R) Version 8.1 Mammography CAD system. V8.1 is the first CADsolution to offer separate operating points -- between the system's highestsensitivity and lowest false marker rates -- for masses andmicrocalcifications, providing physicians with maximum flexibility anddetection performance. The new release now powers R2's entire mammography CADprocessing product line and is available as an upgrade for existing systems.V8.1 will be featured at the 91st Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting ofthe Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) in Chicago, November 27 -December 2, in Booth #8532 (North Hall).

"Version 8.1 gives radiologists maximum CAD flexibility when reviewingmammography images," said Shawl Lobree, R2's vice president of marketing. "Forexample, a site can choose to set the highest sensitivity formicrocalcifications, while setting the operating point for masses to a lowerfalse marker rate. This new offering continues our tradition of developinginnovative CAD solutions that best meet our customers' clinical and workflowneeds." Mr. Lobree noted that R2's installed base, going back to initialImageChecker mammography CAD systems purchased in 2000, can upgrade to thecompany's newest Gold Standard CAD(TM) algorithm, flexible operating pointsand other unique capabilities.

Version 8.1 also contains other exclusive R2 features, including the R2Malc(TM) mark, which indicates a mass with microcalcifications; EmphaSize(TM)variable size CAD marks, which correlate to lesion significance; and theGreenLight(TM) user interface, which enables technologists to processmammography cases quickly and monitor film scanning from a distance, withoutinterrupting other work.

Five independent prospective clinical studies* from academic and communitypractices showed that the use of R2's mammography CAD resulted in 6.6 percentto 19.5 percent more cancers detected. Independent studies* comparing CADperformance on architectural distortions, cases graded by difficulty, andsmall invasive breast cancers all demonstrate the advantage of R2'smarket-leading CAD algorithm.

DigitalNow(TM) Software System -- This system helps facilitate mammographycenters' transition to a digital mammography environment by enablingmammography films to be digitized and archived via DICOM to a PACS for uselater in a soft-copy viewing environment.
