SANTA CLARA, Calif., Dec. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- To support the miniaturization goals of system designers, NEC Electronics America, Inc. today announced that it has expanded its CMOS-10HD gate array offering by adding four new devices with small form factors. The new devices will enable designers to accelerate design and manufacturing times, reduce development costs, and replace general-purpose logic in applications ranging from telecommunications equipment and consumer products to computers and industrial equipment.

"Building on our strong design experience and history, these new devices were created to help designers in competitive markets significantly reduce time to market and system costs."
Designed to perform interface and I/O control functions, the two smallest devices each offer 6,793 usable ASIC gates (equivalent to 13,586 two-input NAND gates), while the two larger devices have 21,118 usable ASIC gates. All are available in ultra-small quad-flat, no-leads (QFN) packages, a popular choice among designers of consumer products and telecommunications equipment because of the small mounting space required. Compared to general-purpose logic ICs, the new CMOS-10HD gate arrays cost up to 50 percent less and have a 35 percent smaller footprint.
Manufactured with NEC Electronics' proven 0.25-micron process with three or four metal layers, the devices operate with 2.5- and 1.8-volt power supplies and have a design and production turnaround time of approximately six weeks, 30 to 60 percent shorter than cell-based ICs manufactured in the same process. With these four new devices, NEC Electronics has expanded its popular CMOS-10HD series to a total of 60 master slices with 33 package options.
