SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Expanding its industry-leading portfolio of innovative liquid crystal display (LCD) solutions for industrial applications, NEC Electronics America, Inc. today introduced three new amorphous-silicon, thin-film transistor (TFT) LCD modules. Developed by NECLCD Technologies, Ltd., the new modules meet the demanding requirements of the industrial market by providing wide operating temperature ranges, wide viewing angles, high resolutions and fast response times. The modules are mechanically compatible with previous generations of displays, enabling customers to easily migrate to the latest LCD modules for next-generation designs.

New Displays Optimized for Industrial Use
Industrial products are often in the field for years, operating in grueling physical environments. NEC Electronics America offers long-term product support, typically five to seven years for industrial LCD modules. The three LCDs introduced today also offer a very fast response time of 25 milliseconds (ms) and boast a wide operating-temperature range of -20 degreesCelsius to +70 degrees Celsius.
Two of the new products, an 8.4- and a 10.4-inch display module, support video graphics array (VGA) resolution and achieve high visibility with a brightness level of 450 candelas per meter squared (cd/m2) and a high contrast ratio of 600:1. Well suited for use in industrial applications such as testand measurement equipment, factory automation equipment, instruments and medical patient monitors, both modules enable a wide viewing angle of 160 degrees horizontally and 140 degrees vertically.
Designed for use in industrial applications such as kiosks, point of service (POS) terminals, gaming terminals, and factory automation and instrumentation equipment, the third product, a 15-inch module, supports extended graphics array (XGA) resolution. The module offers brightness of 500cd/m2 and a contrast ratio of 500:1 to satisfy the visibility requirements of industrial applications. The viewing angle ranges from 80 degrees (up, left,right) to 60 degrees (down).
