SEOUL, South Korea, Feb. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- MagnaChip Semiconductor (www.magnachip.com) announced today that it developed one of the smallest TFT LCD driver chips supporting QCIF + images for mobile phones.
This product is a TFT LCD driver one chip supporting resolution above QCIF plus (176x220) and 260,000 colors, and has a highly competitive chip size among the currently available QCIF plus products. This solution is a "2nd generation product", says MagnaChip, as the chip size has been reduced by more than 40%.
Further, the product minimizes power consumption and supports system and video file interface.
MagnaChip plans to start mass production in March at a 0.18 um process at Fab 5 located in Cheongju, Korea.
Mr. Davis Mok, Vice President of Marketing in MagnaChip's Display Solution Division, said, "This one chip solution has excellent performance and cost competitiveness vs. existing product offerings and will be a key product in our portfolio in 2006. This year, mobile phones with QCIF Plus (176x220) LCD are expected to be mainstream products in the market, with approximately 30% market share."
