SPIE Defense & Security Symposium Booth # 835 SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 12, 2006--JMAR Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: JMAR), a leading developer of advanced laser technology, will present a paper describing its BioSentry(TM) water quality monitoring system at The International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE) Defense & Security Symposium, April 17-21 in Orlando, Florida. The paper, titled "A Real-Time Early Warning System for Pathogens in Water," will be presented by John Adams, Chief Scientist for JMAR's Sensor Products Group.
Two BioSentry(TM) systems were recently shipped to the City of Wichita for water security and quality applications. A third BioSentry(TM) is being tested in a major U.S. city for the purpose of monitoring drinking water for Cryptosporidium and other pathogens. Dr. Adams' paper will discuss the technical features and operational characteristics of the BioSentry(TM) as they relate to these security applications.
BioSentry is a contamination warning system for waterborne microorganisms. Whereas current water monitoring depends on grab sampling of water and time consuming lab analysis, BioSentry uses laser-based technology to provide continuous, online, real-time monitoring for harmful bacteria and protozoa. BioSentry is targeted towards a number of applications across multiple industries, including homeland security, military, municipal drinking water utilities, and the beverage industry.
