WATERLOO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 28, 2005) - DALSA Corporation (TSX:DSA), an international high performance semiconductor and electronics company, today announced it has received a major contract to develop and deliver custom CCD image sensor chips to a leading Asian manufacturer of dental x-ray equipment. The contract, which includes both the custom development and follow-on volume production of the chips, is valued at a minimum of CDN $3.6 million and is expected to be completed over the next two years.
The DALSA image sensor chips will be "the eyes" of the customer's panoramic dental x-ray and cephalometric imaging system, which is used for dental and orthodontic diagnosis and treatment. The custom DALSA chips will allow the x-ray system to capture more detail with higher contrast, using lower radiation doses.
"The transition from analog film to digital capture is rapidly occurring in a number of key Life Sciences end markets, including dental x-ray," commented Savvas Chamberlain, CEO of DALSA Corporation. "Clinics, hospitals, and medical centres world-wide are embracing cost effective digital solutions that offer the highest degree of accuracy, reliability, and patient comfort. This most recent OEM contract, the second of its kind for DALSA in the past several months, demonstrates our position as a technology leader and as a key imaging component supplier to Life Sciences OEMs."
