CHICAGO , Nov. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- RSNA 2006 -- DALSA Corporation(TSX: DSA) today announced its latest life sciences imaging solution, the XR-4scientific and medical X-Ray camera intended for use in the biomedical, specimen, mammography and computed tomography (CT scanning) fields. The XR-4delivers superior image quality, offers a larger field of view, and high framerates for CT applications. Automatic exposure control in the XR-4 minimizespatient dosage, and delivers increased resolution and sensitivity.

In applications such as mammography, digital radiography is a vital toolin early cancer cell detection. Digital radiographic techniques go beyond justdetecting cancer cells. If a biopsy becomes necessary, digital radiography canhelp doctors to position biopsy needles properly through a process calledstereotactic imaging. The camera can assist with specimen radiography to testtissue specimens.

DALSA Life Sciences imaging technology is incorporated into medicalimaging equipment for clinical use and significantly increases the speed andaccuracy of stereotactic biopsy needle positioning, spot imaging, CT, andspecimen radiography. This in turn decreases patient risk, procedure accuracy, significantly reduces patient discomfort, and speeds the process.

The XR-4 digital X-Ray camera is an innovative 16 mega pixel CCD camerafor high resolution radiography applications. The camera has a very largefield of view (150 x 150 mm) and can operate at 10 frames per second (4 x 4binning mode) using proprietary DALSA technology.

The XR-4's high spatial resolution, low noise and high sensitivity providebetter images than competing technologies. XR-4 is a reliable camera withconsistent performance over time; its robustness and durability maximizesreturn on investment. With its standard Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) outputinterface and no requirement for a frame grabber, the XR-4 is easilyintegrated into radiography systems. The XR-4 comes in three different models;a 7.5 x 7.5 cm, 7.5 x 15 cm and a 15 x 15 cm field of view. The camera canalso be customized to meet specific customer requirements, with minimuminvestment.
