MuTech Corporation (Billerica, MA) recently announced their FalconEye
PCI Bus Wavelet Engine, a color/monochrome engine capable
of switching video sources, digitizing, compressing and storing
compressed video data either to fixed or removable media;
the compressed data can also be transmited to a local or remote
location via LAN, WAN or Internet. The FalconEye contains
on-board compression hardware capable of processing sixty
fields per second of CCIR601-format digital video. This board
provides up to 16 Event Inputs and 2 Strobe Outputs; videos
from up to 16 cameras may be selected for recording or transmission
at the Extended setting, with up to 8 video sources supported
on the MDR-36 36-pin connector. A video output provides a
preview of the selected channel on a video monitor.

The PXI-1409,
from Texas-based
National Instruments, is a multichannel monochrone image acquisition board. PXI combines a PCI bus
with timing and triggering feaures to provide asynchronous
acquisition and integration with motion and data acquisition
(DAQ) devices. Engineers and scientists can achieve user-configurable
resolution with 8-bit (256 grayscale) or 10-bit (1024 grayscale)
acquisition, increasing accuracy from standard and non-standard
cameras. The PXI-1409 includes four video inputs to connect
multiple cameras, and hardware calibration for consistent
image acquisition.

Last, but
certainly not least, we turn our sights toward Aix-en-Provence,
France, where
PLDApplications produces a frame grabber called the PCI-X XSYS. This grabber supports base, medium
and full Camera Link or LVDS up to 133 MHz, accepts image
data from 1 to 4 area or line-scan cameras and provides monochrone
or RGB images. Features include a 64-bit PCI-X interface,
embedded procecssing, on-board buffering and storage, generic
Camera Link and LVDS interfaces supporting various cameras,
scalable hardware architecture and a fiber optic option for
remote acquisition.
