What are his tips for moving east? Help customers understand machine vision and your product. Understand customer needs. Understand research, development and application priorities and policies established by the Chinese government, partner with local organizations and try to employ local people for public relations.
In last month's Perspective (and beginning on page 10 this issue) I discussed the emergence of LEDs. The other day the point was further illuminated. I went into a bookstore to pick up a new bulb for my wife's portable reading light, the kind that clips onto the book. I was told that they no longer stocked them. They were, the young woman behind the counter told me with a shake of her head, out-of-date. Sure enough, all the lights they stocked had LEDs.
