USDC Issues Open Solicitation: Request for Proposals

The U.S. Display Consortium (USDC), a public/private partnership chartered with developing the flat panel display industry infrastructure, is actively seeking proposals for the design, development and delivery of new process technology, manufacturing equipment, materials and components used in the fabrication of high-definition flat panel displays.

Pre-proposals and complete proposals are accepted on all topics related to equipment, process technology and materials for FPD manufacturing. However, a selection of topics that reflect the specific interests of the USDC display manufacturers include, but are not limited to the following: low temperature cleaning for polymer substrates; deposition and patterning of OLED displays; patterned conductor repair; low temperature dielectric materials and processes; solid state lighting sources for projection systems; web-based defect inspection tools and processes. Pre-proposals are due on April 14, 2006. Questions, after reviewing the full RFP document, should be forwarded to Brett Bryars, Director of Technical Programs for USDC, bbryars@usdc.org.

LG.Philips LCD Signs Evaluation Agreement With Kodak for AMOLED Development

LG.Philips LCD (Seoul, Korea), a leading TFT-LCD manufacturer, announced that it has entered an evaluation agreement for active matrix organic light emitting diode development with Eastman Kodak Company (Rochester, N.Y.). Under the terms of the agreement, LG.Philips LCD and Kodak will jointly evaluate display technologies for mobile displays and consider other opportunities, including the development and supply of AMOLED technology and products.

“This agreement brings together our leadership in TFT technology with Kodak’s expertise in producing OLED materials and processing technology,” said Budiman Sastra, executive vice president and CTO of LG.Philips LCD. “Our goal is to work together seamlessly to develop future business opportunities in the AMOLED industry.”
