MTI has also rolled out its Vivant 400 storage solution, available
with a 146.8GB disk drive. Together with its fault-tolerant, scalable
technology, the new 146.8GB drive allows users to expand storage
to 25.8 Terabytes of data. The Vivant 400 can accommodate 16 disk
drives per 3U enclosure and 11 enclosures per cabinet or rack,
for a total of 176 drives. Available in both SAN (Storage Area
Network) and direct-attached models, this series provides end-to-end
2-Gigabit fibre channel technology and supports multiple heterogeneous
open system host servers running on such operating systems as
Sun Solaris, Hewlett-Packard HP-UX, Microsoft Windows NT and 2000,
Novell NetWare, Linux and IBM AIX.

From Other World Computing (Woodstock, IL) comes two CD-RW external FireWire
drives-the Mercury Pro 48x12x48 and the Mercury Pro 48x24x48-which
operate at 52x speeds and burn CDs in under 90 seconds. Both drives
are compatible with Macintosh and Windows-based systems with FireWire
or USB support, and both feature Lite-On SMART-BURN technology.
Each drive ships with 25 pieces of CD-R media, one piece of CD-RW
media, Roxio Toast Lite 5.2.x and connecting cables. The Mercury
Pro CD-RW writes to industry-standard 550MB (63 min.), 650MB (74
min.) and 700MB (80 min.) discs and is capable of overburn writes
up to 99 minutes.

to the DX30, discussed above, Quantum Corp. manufactures the SDLT 320 tape drive, with 160 Gigabytes of storage capacity
and a 16MB/second sustained data transfer rate in Native Mode.
The SDLT 320 can back up 115GB per hour in compressed mode and
store 320GB on a single cartridge compressed. All versions are
backward-read-compatible with other DLT drives, allowing easy
migration to the Super DLTape platform as storage needs grow.
