MPEG MICROSCOPY CAMERAS
The new DualVision line of CCD cameras are designed to address
the needs of demanding electron microscopy imaging for bio
and material sciences_as "point and shoot imaging for TEMs."
The side-mounted, lens-coupled 300W version offers 1300x1030
imaging with interline transfer and 360-degree rotation; the
bottom-mounted 600 model, which targets diffraction imaging
and highest res TEM work, offers 1024x1024 imaging, frame
transfer style_and both provide 12-bit, 5 MHz digital video
output at up to 15 frames a second. The system can output
MPEG image sequences of in-situ experiments, documenting changes.
Software controls exposure parameters automatically. A PCI
interface board is provided with both versions (and a PC is
part of a prepackaged version that includes frame-grabber
and multimedia archiving software. Microscope control and
TEM Tune software are options. GATAN, INC.

FRAMEGRABBER
CONTROL FOR CMOS IMAGING
If the integration of CMOS imaging Integrated Circuits into
microprocessors is a fast-growing design goal, the new FGA1280
Framegrabber Control IC from this Canadian supplier of CMOS
imaging products is designed to ease that effort. The chip
transfers image data from the imager directly to the CPU via
a standard SDRAM interface, reducing the need for FPGAs; pixel
arrays of up to 1280x1024 and 60 frames per second rates can
be handled by the device. The chip also handles camera interface
signals, a sleep mode for scanners or portable smart cameras,
and timing and control hardware which will integrate with
the manufacturer's oncoming 30 frames/sec. Full frame 1280x1024
