Brazil's Largest Hospital Opts for Barco PACS Displays
Medical imaging company Barco (Kortrijk, Belgium) has won a contract to supply high-grade PACS display systems to the Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (the University Hospital of São Paulo), the largest hospital in Brazil. The new systems will be installed in the hospital's reporting rooms and will be deployed to replace the existing film-based radiology workflow. Delivery and installation will be carried out by Macsym Tecnologia Eletrônica, Ltd., Barco's local partner in Brazil.
"By choosing the Barco Nio display systems, the University Hospital of São Paulo has opted for a dependable visualization solution with a proven track record at a very competitive price," says Carlos Alberto Kavai, Director at Macsym. "Performing approximately 500,000 diagnostic procedures every year, the hospital will certainly benefit from the high level of productivity delivered by the Nio display systems."
"Even in times where budget constraints are a reality, our hospital decided to opt for a solution that delivers the quality our staff and patients deserve," explains Erico Bueno, PACS Coordinator at the University Hospital of São Paulo. "After analysis and testing, we concluded that Barco's Nio systems best met our expectations. The Nio systems allow us to keep the quality, accuracy and reliability of our reporting to the highest level."
The order for Barco's Nio displays is part of a larger PACS project, including replacement of the hospital's old modalities with DICOM compliant devices, installation of a DICOM server and storage, and setup of new workstations for image visualization and diagnosis. The hospital ordered 23 Nio Fusion 4MP color systems with a resolution of four megapixels and seven Nio grayscale systems (dual-head) with a resolution of 3 megapixels. All workstations will be installed in the hospital's radiology institute.
Nio is Barco's line of diagnostic display systems for cost-effective medical imaging. Nio significantly improves the diagnostic reading routine for a multitude of medical imaging applications, including PACS, MRI, angiography, computed tomography and mammography. Nio systems are available in color and grayscale, with resolutions ranging from two to five megapixels.
