INEXPENSIVE I5" FLAT PANEL DISPLAY
The space-saving 570vTFT is the first 15-inch flat panel display to become available to end-users for under $500, and it targets both corporate and consumer applications. This new entry delivers .297 dot pitch and 1024x768 res at 75Hz with 16 million colors—in a third the space of a traditional CRT—and by exploiting a four-stage power management system, it also consumes only 30% of the power. A self-powered USB hub is an option; its four downstream and one upstream ports can enable up to 127 USB peripherals to be connected to the CPU through the monitor. Built to the PC Plug-and-Play standard. SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS AMERICA.

FAST LINE-SCAN CAMERA
The
just-announced PIRANHA2 is a small footprint line scan camera
designed for PCB inspection, web inspection over wide areas,
and multi-camera machine vision applications such as parcel
and postal sorting, which combine resolution and performance
demands. The new version of this camera line, with its notable
160MHz data rate, offers 1k, 2k, 4k, 6k and 8k resolution,
in two or four output models; all of them deliver selectable
8 or 10-bits of data, with CDs and programmable flat-field
correction—at 40MHz per tap. All of the models use
the Camera Link high speed interface for easy cabling. DALSA.

VISION
INSPECTION FOR FIBER CABLE
A vision
system designed for automatic detection and measurement
of scratches, cracks and spots on optical fibers that form
during polishing process, the new Fiberinspect system targets
both OEMs and industrial end-users with legacy manual systems.
In an app that has traditionally demanded some guesswork,
the automated system uses proprietary algorithms to detect
defects at the sub-micron level, to more accurately determine
if cable is acceptable or in need of a re-polish, even where
contrast between fiber and background is poor. The system,
which works with a fiberscope camera, includes Windows-based
vision inspection software; a Visual C++ development kit
version is also available for OEMs. COGNEX CORPORATION.
