ITN Source Chooses Volicon Observer to Expedite FOX Business News Delivery

Volicon (Burlington, Mass.) announced that ITN Source, one of the world's largest commercial providers of motion imagery, has implemented the Volicon Observer® media logging and monitoring system on behalf of one of ITN's longtime license partners, FOX News. The Observer enables ITN Source to deliver licensed FOX Business News content to clients immediately upon broadcast, without the delays of videotape-based processes.

As one aspect of its services, ITN Source provides licensed footage to independent researchers or public relations agencies representing the high-profile corporate leaders who make guest appearances on FOX News broadcasts. Prior to the Observer, ITN Source relied solely on a time-consuming tape-based process for locating footage and delivering it to clients. ITN Source staffers were required to manually search through videotapes for the requested footage, which would have to be digitized and converted to QT or WMV files and then delivered to the client via file transfer protocol (FTP).

ITN Source viewed a digital content logging system as an opportunity to strengthen its relationship with FOX by providing immediate content delivery to clients requesting FOX Business Network content. The Volicon Observer provides 24-hour monitoring and recording of FOX Business Network programming, and enables ITN Source staff to search for and instantly retrieve footage via the system's robust closed caption database. The footage can then be easily exported to a DVD for distribution to the client.

"We looked at a number of other platforms, but the Observer's search capabilities were far and away the best on the market—and the system offers us a way to differentiate ourselves by providing a much higher quality end product than the low-res clips that other news monitoring services provide," said Brian Sargent, FOX account executive for ITN Source. "Even when clients provide very sketchy information about the clips they're looking for, the Observer allows us to quickly fill in the blanks and turn requests around in short order. The resulting efficiencies and productivity improvements have allowed us to focus our efforts on client relations and grow our business."
