The Golden Dragon® ARGUS® White LED from OSRAM Opto Semiconductors combines the company's proprietary ThinGaN® (indium gallium nitride) technology for outstanding brightness and uniformity with the patented ARGUS lens—specially designed for high-efficiency backlighting and illumination—and OSRAM's chip level conversion (CLC) technology. Designed as a compact, cost-effective, high-brightness general-purpose LED, each Golden Dragon ARGUS white package contains one HBLED with a thin phosphor coating over the emission area, applied at the wafer level. The Golden Dragon ARGUS white delivers more useable light with higher brightness and better uniformity for applications such as backlighting and specialty illumination (greater than 85 percent over the entire surface of the backlight) from a lower profile (less than 40 mm) package, enabling the use of fewer LEDs overall for reduced part count and cost. With more than 90 percent of the light available within a 1600 cone, the Golden Dragon ARGUS white is optimized for display and sign backlighting, and its versatility makes it ideal for a range of general lighting applications, indoor and outdoor architectural lighting, and decorative and entertainment lighting. The Golden Dragon ARGUS white meets 70 percent of NTSC requirements for LCD backlighting applications, has an operating temperature range of -40ºC to +85ºC, provides a lifetime of more than 50,000 hours depending on application conditions, and is RoHS-compliant.
