Cedara Software Acquires eMed
Cedara Software Corp. ( Mississauga, ON, Canada) has signeda definitive agreement pursuant to which it will acquire allof the issued and outstanding shares of eMed Technologies Corporation( Burlington, MA), a privately-held provider of Picture Archivingand Communications Systems (PACS) and Web-based medical imagingradiology solutions.
Cedara will pay a cash consideration of $48 million for the acquisition. eMed will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Cedara. The acquisition is expected to close by next month, upon obtaining the consent of eMed's shareholders and the satisfaction of other customary closing conditions. Cedara intends to pay for eMed through a combination of its own cash reserves and through bank financing.
The combined company will have approximately 350 employees in the US and Canada. In addition, eMed’s Mark Smith will stay on as CEO.

Barco Acquires Voxar
Barco ( Kortrijk, Belgium) has signed an agreement to acquire Voxar,a 3D medical imaging software company based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Theacquisition creates substantial synergies for the companies, includingan enviable combined global customer base and a complementary high-growthportfolio of products and solutions. The total transaction cost for Barcois valued at €39 million ($47.4 million).
Voxar's software enhances radiologists' productivity by translating the huge number of 2D slices, generated by modern medical scanners, into easy to interpret 3D images. The acquisition of Voxar will enable Barco to offer PACS and modality vendors comprehensive advanced visualization solutions — including Voxar 3D and Voxar Colonscreen, and Barco’s advanced medical display systems .
