Barco Acquires Voxar

Barco ( Kortrijk, Belgium) has signed an agreement to acquire Voxar,a 3D medical imaging software company based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Theacquisition creates substantial synergies for the companies, includingan enviable combined global customer base and a complementary high-growthportfolio of products and solutions. The total transaction cost for Barcois valued at €39 million ($47.4 million).

Voxar's software enhances radiologists' productivity by translating the huge number of 2D slices, generated by modern medical scanners, into easy to interpret 3D images. The acquisition of Voxar will enable Barco to offer PACS and modality vendors comprehensive advanced visualization solutions — including Voxar 3D and Voxar Colonscreen, and Barco’s advanced medical display systems .

Voxar will be fully integrated into Barco's Medical Imaging business unit and become the worldwide center of expertise for 3D software products. All of Voxar’s 80 associates, including the current management team, will join the new company structure. CEO Andrew Bissell will take up a broader responsibility as global Chief Strategic Officer (CSO) of Barco Medical Imaging Systems.
