Active Silicon was founded in 1988 as a consultancy specializing in the design and application of programmable chip technologies, with particular emphasis on digital video systems. Within two years, the company was producing its own range of products and is now a market leader in the design and manufacture of frame grabbers and vision systems, together with associated software and development tools.
Utilizing leading-edge technologies, Active Silicon provides a comprehensive range of products for OEMs, integrators and end-users. Frame grabbers include the Snapper, LFG and Phoenix ranges in PCI, PMC, cPCI and PC/104-Plus form factors for Windows, Mac, Linux, QNX, Solaris and VxWorks platforms. These provide acquisition solutions for a wide range of applications from low-cost analog cameras to high-end digital (LVDS and Camera Link) formats. The vision-based systems comprise network cameras and remote video solutions, plus a patented vision system for the automatic sorting of casino chips, which commands a majority share of the worldwide market. To support the hardware, Active Silicon has also developed a wide range of software tools, including board-level software libraries, JPEG and wavelet codecs, and many other image processing and display functions to facilitate rapid product development.
Active Silicon products are used in a wide diversity of markets. In particular, solutions are provided to OEMs for industrial vision, semiconductor and Web inspection applications, as well as in specific niches in the aerospace, defense, medical and security fields.
