On July 31, FireWire met GigE. That's when Allied Vision Technologies (Stadtroda, Germany) acquired Prosilica Inc., (Vancouver, B.C., Canada) for an undisclosed purchase price.

Allied is a market leader in FireWire industrial cameras and Prosilica, which was founded in 2003, produces primarily GigE cameras. The entire Prosilica team, led by CEO Marty Furse, will remain in place.

Both companies have a history of growth and their technology teams will continue developing both FireWire and GigE interfaces, says AVT CEO Frank Grube. The already established brand names will continue.

After the announcement of the acquisition, Grube and Furse provided Advanced Imaging Magazine and AdvancedImagingPro
.com
with answers to a number of key questions the industry has about the merger and anticipated synergies between the two companies.
