Los Angeles International Airport Unveils Energy-Saving Color Kinetics Installation
BOSTON , Sept. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Color Kinetics Incorporated(Nasdaq: CLRK), a leading innovator of LED lighting systems and technologies,today announced the unveiling of its latest landmark installation --encompassing more than 1,800 LED-based fixtures as part of a lightingrenovation project for Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Based onpreliminary operation and testing, the LED-based system is expected to consumejust 25% of the total energy drawn by the previous fixtures, while alsoreducing maintenance and cutting the number of electrical vendors requiredfrom six to two.
The project called for the replacement of five-year-old metal halidefixtures within 26 glass pylons leading to the airport's entrance, known asthe famed LAX Gateway. Ranging in height from 25 to 110 feet, the translucentpylons can now display custom-designed, color-changing effects that areseamlessly enabled by Chromacore(R) technology, as opposed to the use of glassfilters, colored gels, and electro-mechanical color scrollers that werepreviously required. Color Kinetics' ColorBlast(R) 12 Powercore fixture wasused for the project, which, as a single-cable line voltage system, eliminatedthe need for numerous external power supplies.
