SURFnet is a founding member of the GLIF and one of Global Crossing's most innovative customers in the research and education sector. Services provided include multiple transatlantic 10 Gbps wavelengths between Amsterdam and the GOLEs in Chicago and New York, as well as 10 Gbps connections to the international nuclear research institute CERN based in Geneva . In addition, Global Crossing provides Internet connectivity through three 1 Gbps Ethernet IP Transit ports at SARA and provides unlit fiber for SURFnet6, SURFnet's hybrid optical and packet switching national research network.
