Cambridge, UK Plasmon (LSE: PLM), market leader in professional data storage solutions, today announced the launch of the new Raidtec FS3102 RAID subsystem, designed for mid-sized and departmental business applications requiring a low cost Fibre Channel SAN (Storage Area Network) solution.
The new Raidtec FS3102 uses Plasmon's own FS RAID controller technology to combine the performance of a 2Gbit Fibre Channel host interface with professional quality Serial ATA (SATA) disk drives. This robust configuration delivers an impressive 370MB/sec maximum data transfer rate in a compact 2U, 12 bay enclosure with up to 4.8TB of total storage capacity.
The FS3102 offers an excellent price / performance ratio and the flexibility of a Fibre Channel interface makes it ideal for storage consolidation and expansion in a SAN infrastructure. The FS3102 is a fully configured, out-of-the-box RAID solution that comes with the powerful Raidtec Manager interface, for remote configuration, management and monitoring of one or more subsystems, as standard.
"Fibre Channel RAID systems are not new, but to date their cost and complexity has meant that some organisations have not been able to benefit from the adaptability and performance of a SAN architecture," explains Paul Devine, director of sales EMEA, Raidtec Solutions. "The FS3102 dramatically changes the economic equation. By using our own Fibre Channel controller technology with cost effective SATA disk drives, Plasmon has put SAN technology well within the reach of departmental applications and smaller organisations."
The FS3102 is the second major addition to the Raidtec Solution product family since Plasmon's acquisition of RAID Corporation in April 2004 and the release of the successful Raidtec CS3102 RAID system based on a high performance Ultra 320 SCSI host interface and professional SATA disk drives.
