Advanced Imaging

Advanced Imaging readers work for some of the world's most innovative companies, medical facilities and research institutions. They are constantly searching for information on new state-of-the art technology, applications and cross-market opportunities. They are looking for imaging solutions and opportunities that will help achieve the next scientific breakthrough, save a patient's life or make a manufacturing process more efficient. A reader might be an engineer at a medical equipment OEM or defense contractor; a researcher at a government lab or pharmaceutical manufacturer; an operations manager with a food industry processor; or an integrator working across many application areas.

Our readers are decision-makers searching for imaging solutions. Approximately 65 percent carry a management title and subscribe because of their need to better understand the electronic-imaging market. No matter what the application, electronic-imaging solutions consist of the core technologies of illumination, optics, sensor/frame grabber, image processing, data path, display, storage and software. Cameras (including smart cameras) also are included informally in this list. Advanced Imaging focuses on how these core technologies work together to provide the solutions our readers need.

Building Upon Success

Advanced Imaging, now in its 23rd year, has a fresh approach that is geared toward helping our readers achieve their goals. We will continue to build on our strong foundation with a reader-oriented approach.

Feature Articles will continue to explore new developments in the specific core imaging technologies and how those developments can enhance our readers' success. Because of reader input, we have increased coverage of imaging developments in areas like machine vision, high-speed imaging, remote sensing, nanotechnology, medicine and the sciences. In 2009, Advanced Imaging is planning even more coverage of our dynamic marketplace. Our readers have asked for more features and application stories.

Each issue will include additional feature articles as well as enhanced coverage of exceptional applications of imaging technology using the established Application Notes format. This column consists of focused, short case studies—longer than a news item but shorter than a feature article—leading to enhanced regular coverage of applications and technology.

In February 2009, Advanced Imaging produced the Electronic Imaging Core Technologies Roadmap. This popular map looks at the core technologies and vividly shows how they are related and interact. Along those lines, the Component Integration column will continue in 2009. Each month our readers will travel the electronic imaging roadmap, exploring both specific and general integration issues. For example, what must be taken into account when mating a lens to a large-format sensor? Or, how do you adjust illumination in a challenging industrial environment?

Advanced Imaging will continue the very successful Core Technology and New Products sections, reflecting our readers' interest in finding new solutions for their imaging needs. The December issue will provide a comprehensive roundup of the latest and greatest products available to readers as 2009 comes to an end.
